Stuck On An Outfit Idea for Your Photoshoot?
Alright, you have booked me as your photographer, you have got your location and time set, the only thing left is trying to figure out what to wear! This can sometimes be the hardest decision out of the entire process. You want colors that look good together, you don't want someone to stick out like a sore thumb, you hate the way you look in the color yellow...etc. I could go on.
Here are a few recommendations that us photographers have for you!
-Clothing that doesn't attract attention is the ultimate goal. You want people to look at your beautiful faces.
-Tone down your bright colors, they distract from faces and can be reflective.
-When choosing light colors, stick to pastel tones. Pastel yellow and blue work well in nature.
-Lighter clothing looks nice and fresh! White underneath dark jackets looks great. White by itself can be a little distracting.
-Avoid prints and patterns. This includes logos on shirts. They are distracting and can sometimes photograph fuzzy. (Plaid can be okay if it is not too busy, I'm more suggesting to stay away from zig zags/polkadots/etc.)

-Long pants ALWAYS look better than shorts. Short sleeves are alright. When more skin is in the photograph it can distract from faces.
-Don't over accessorize. Bulky jewelry can be another distraction. Keep it simple.
-Simple, neutral makeup is very flattering.
-For group pictures, coordinate the colors of your clothing. Solid colors work very well. Decide the basic tones (warm/cool). Then follow the above instructions. Mismatched colors are distracting. White tops can look nice, but if anyone in your family is super pale, white can make pale skin look paler. Jeans are a classic casual choice. Pastels enhance natural skin tones. Dark tones make pictures feel more serious, while lighter colors make them feel more fun. You don't need
uniforms, just match color schemes! Clothing should not be too tight or too loose.

-Tip. Lay out all the clothing onto a bed. Then look at the outfits. If your eye goes to any
one item in particular, you can be certain that the same thing will happen in a
photograph. That item should be changed.

-Maternity. The goal is to show off that adorable baby bump. Long flowing dresses tend to do this very well. Wearing a tight dress can show off all your beautiful curves, flowing dresses are less revealing. Wear what you're comfortable in.
-Newborns and Babies. 95% of the time, newborns and babies look best in their birthday suits! If you want them to be photographed with clothes, solid colors usually work best. Of course, if you have that amazing outfit that you would love a photograph of, include it.
